Why is your Roof Leaking?

Roofs can leak for various reasons. Depending on what kind of roof you have and the materials that went into it, there are several reasons as to why a roof can leak. Here are a few of the most common reasons as to why a roof might leak and what you can do about it.

Damaged tiles

The most common reason for roofs leaking is broken tiles. When tiles get shaken by wind, get hit by hail, or some branch or wood falls in it, it can get damaged. The spot that it leaves exposed can collect water and if it rains a particular way, the roof will seep and start dripping.

Flashing

Flashing is the metal lining that is placed around chimneys and other outlets. Over time, they can get damaged and allow water to get in. repairing them is quite difficult and can cost quite a bit, but the flashing getting damaged is rare.
Wrong materials

Depending on the type of roof you have, the wrong materials can and will allow leakage. The roof pitch, or the ratio of vertical rise to length and the materials have to match. If they don’t, then you have yourself a mismatched roof. The issue is that the underlying support structures can also get damaged.
